Vietnamese Fried Bananas with Ice Cream sounds like a wonderful treat, and
is one of the special recipes Daisy Troop Activity Director Andrea Nepa
served during one of her lessons. Using the book,
Evening Meals Around the World and the other books in the series,
Daisy Troop #901 in Haddonfield, NJ gathered for a fun evening of
multicultural meals and education in understanding different cultures
through their food. The 17 Daisies focused on the theme, "Respect for Myself
and Others" and learned that there is a lot of great food throughout the
world! They passed around socks full of dried food such as rice, couscous,
corn, beans, and pasta and had fun guessing which foods they were by what
they felt like. The girls made magazine cut-out collages of different foods
and created their own paper plates full of good foods. The night ended with
a new snack of Asian Rice Crackers, Fortune Cookies and a take-home gift of
Chopsticks to use at home.
Their lesson, and the book
Evening Meals Around World, includes food descriptions from America,
Australia, Vietnam, Ethiopia, India, Morocco, Italy, and Mexico. This book,
along with
Morning Meals Around the World,
Midday Meals Around the World, and
Snack Time Around the World are full of foods from different cultures
with a few great recipes as well. These books combined with fun activities
are a great way to introduce children to different foods from different
cultures!
